ACTION YOUTH

Action Youth is a Denver nonprofit with a mission to develop urban student leaders who positively influence their community. We do this by teaching the value of:

  1. Healthy Life Choices

  2. Academic Excellence

  3. Leading to Serve

Imagine a community with student leaders positively influencing their home, school and community by being the change in their environment.  Student Leaders are no longer the victims in their communities, but victors.  Student Leaders are no longer "AT-RISK" in their community but "AT-WORK" in their community.  Student leaders lead initiatives, peers, teachers, schools, homes and communities toward positive change.

This is ACT!ON YOUTH.

Action Youth is built on the framework of DEVELOPMENTAL RELATIONSHIPS.

What are developmental relationships and why do they matter?

A developmental relationship is a close connection between a young person and an adult or between a young person and a peer that powerfully and positively shapes the young person’s identity and helps the young person develop a thriving mindset.  A thriving mindset can be summarized as the orientation not just to get by in life, but to flourish—not just to survive, but to thrive.

We knew that in order to address the issues in our communities the solutions had to come from within our communities.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

We believe the skills, assets, resources, and people to affect positive change in the community are already in the community, but need to be encouraged, empowered, and equipped.

Action Youth is an urban tool for an urban lifestyle.
